Betadine cream is an antiseptic combination. It works by killing sensitive bacteria. Generally, it can be used to treat vaginitis or other mixed infections in that area of the body. It can also be used to treat wounds and infections from bacteria.
Clean the affected area. Apply a small amount of Betadine gel to the affected area. The area may be left uncovered, or you may cover it with a sterile bandage.
Betadine is for external use only. Do not get Betadine in your eyes. Do not use Betadine over large areas of the body or for more than 1 week unless advised to do so by your doctor. If the wound you plan to use Betadine on is very deep or it is an open fire burn, medical practitioners advice against the use of this medication. Contact your doctor before using Betadine cream on serious burns, deep wounds, or puncture wounds. Betadine Gel can be used while on your period, so it is advisable to continue treatment, even when menstruation starts. We all know that when it comes to issues involving women, it is always best to deal with these issues before they even fully arise.
Pregnant women or women still breastfeeding are advised not to use Betadine. Do not use this medication if you have had a severe allergic reaction to Betadine or a medicine that contains iodine.
Possible side effect
The most common side effect is skin irritation. Seek medical attention right away if you have severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue).
Some medicines may interact with Betadine. However, no specific interactions are known at this time.
If you miss a dose of Betadine, use it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not use 2 doses at once.
If you think you have overdosed the medicine seek emergency medical help at once.
Store Betadine cream at room temperature, between 68 and 77 degrees F (20 and 25 degrees C). Brief storage at temperatures between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 and 30 degrees C) is permitted. Store away from heat, moisture, and light. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep Betadine out of the reach of children and away from pets.
